John Deere Announces Refreshes & New Entries In Its 5M & 5E Series Tractor Lines
Not every job out on the farm or on a landscaping project requires a large tractor, and in fact some jobs are best-suited for the smaller profile that compact tractors provide. That’s why in addition to selling high-horsepower workhorses, John Deere also offers lower-horsepower models that fit into that 115 HP or below region. These tractors, which are in the 5M and 5E series, are versatile enough to be used for a wide range of applications and still offer quite a bit of performance in spite of their lower horsepower engines. And John Deere is making quite a few meaningful changes to these models to make them even better.
5M Series
John Deere points out that the 5M Series is the bestselling tractor line in Europe, which is what makes the updates to the range coming in 2018 all the more exciting. A new 5090M model will replace the previous 5085M predecessor and will sit alongside the 5075M, 5100M, and 5115M. All of them have PowerTech PWX engines, with the 5075M having a 2.9-liter three-cylinder engine and the 5090M, 5100M, and 5115M having 4.5-liter four-cylinder engines.
The versatility of these tractors goes beyond engines and horsepower though, because they are available with a standard cab, narrow cab, premium cab with sunroof, or as an open station. Everything inside, including the seat, storage, and display have been redesigned for ultimate driver comfort and productivity. You’ll also have the option for larger tires while maintaining the same tight turning radius, which makes these tractors perfect for working in close quarters.
5E Series
In addition to the 5M Series updates, John Deere is upgrading many of the tractors in its 5E Series as well. Most of them will feature the PowerTech E engine, with one model, the 5050E, featuring the PowerTech M engine. As far as horsepower is concerned on these models, the 5050E has 49 HP, the 5058E has 60.3 HP, the 5067E has 68.5 HP, and the 5075E has 74.7 HP. There are a couple of options with these tractors when it comes to the transmission, which means you’ll be choosing between a 12/12 PowrReverser or 24/12 PowrReverser option.
Similarly to the 5M Series refresh, the interior of the 5E Series is also getting a bit of a redesign. You have options for open station or standard cab configurations, but the ultimate goal here is for optimal driver comfort. John Deere not only installed a new air suspension seat, but also changed the controls to put everything on the right hand console for easier operation. Add to this the newly designed digital instrument panel and it’s clear John Deere focused on not only making these tractors perform better but to also make them more enjoyable to operate.
