Briggs & Stratton To Use Walbro’s Electronic Fuel Injection Systems In Ride & Zero-Turn Mowers
Briggs & Stratton has entered into a supply agreement with Walbro LLC that will give the manufacturer exclusive rights to use Walbro’s EEM (Electronic Engine Management) SHIFT electronic fuel-injection systems in certain engines. This will include single- and twin-cylinder engines for riding and zero-turn radius lawn mowers.
Driving Consumer Purchases
Briggs & Stratton says the agreement with the Tucson, Arizona,-based Walbro will enable it to bring “industry-leading, cost-efficient fuel-injection technology” to Briggs & Stratton’s line of residential-grade engines. Jeff Coad, Briggs & Stratton global vice president of product development and marketing, engines, and power, said company research continually indicates purchases among consumers considering gas walk-behind, riding, and zero-turn mowers are largely driven by a desire for easy and dependable starting and fuel efficiency. Walbro’s system, he says, enables Briggs & Stratton to now offer “more fuel-efficient mowers that run longer and deliver great performance at an exceptional value.”
Monitor & Manage
In addition to electronic fuel-injection systems, Walbro manufactures carburetors, ignition systems, fuel tanks, fuel pumps, valves, and fuel storage and distribution systems. Walbro says the EEM Injection System, developed specifically for small engines, replaces a carburetor with “an affordable electronic fuel-injection system.” EEM “monitors and manages ignition and air/fuel ratio to optimize engine performance,” says Walbro, adding that the system improves engines starting and warm up, enhances fuel economy, and increases horsepower.
“We developed EEM SHIFT technology to bring the benefits of fuel injection to a much larger group of power equipment consumers, so Briggs & Stratton is the perfect launch partner,” says Chris Quick, Walbro senior vice president of strategy and sales.
