New Ferris Zero-Turn Mowers Boast Race-Car Engineering
When designing the Ferris ISX2200 and ISX3300, Briggs & Stratton turned to Todd Gordon, crew chief for Team Penske, to deliver an advanced, independent suspension system that allows landscape professionals to mow at a higher speed and also have more control over the mower. Dubbed the ForeFront Suspension System, the patent-pending technology is one of many enhancements found on the Ferris ISX2200 and ISX3300, which are said to be upgrades on Ferris’ popular IS2100 and IS3200 units.
The Ferris Suspension System
The powersport-inspired ForeFront Suspension System utilizes four solid control rods with hardened radial ends. The resulting front suspension geometry eliminates caster chatter, according to Briggs & Stratton, ensuring the front casters remain in the ideal orientation throughout the entire range of suspension travel to improve the ride and quality of the cut. The new Ferris mowers also feature dual-rate coil springs to resist component motion and allow the operator to select from five-position adjustments for conditions, user preference, and attachments.
Other New Features
Briggs & Stratton indicates that many of the other upgrades on the ISX2200 and ISX3000 were driven by customer feedback. Just a few of the key improvements include a foldable ROPS (rollover protection structure) that reduces noise for operator while the mower is in motion and ergonomic mid-back suspension seat for a more comfortable ride and workday. The new zero-turn mowers also feature an angled rear bumper, which is said to better protect the engine, offer additional ground clearance, and provide easier service access.
Inside The ISX2200 & ISX3300
The Ferris ISX2200 is powered by a 28-horsepower Vanguard 810 engine and has a 52- or 61-inch (132- or 155-centimeter) two-belt iCD cutting system. Select units come with the proven Vanguard Oil Guard System. For added durability Ferris says the unit is also equipped with a Hydro-Gear ZT 4400 transaxle. The ISX3300 boasts a 37-horsepower Vanguard BIG BLOCK EFI with Oil Guard System. Available with either a 61- or 72-inch (155- or 188-centimeter) two-belt iCD cutting system, the ISX3300 features Hydro-Gear ZT 5400 Powertrain transaxles and Hercules spindles.
