Yamaha Uncages The Wolverine RMAX-1000, Its First 1,000-cc Side-By-Side Sport UTV
Yamaha evokes the call of the wild with the latest addition to its ROV (recreational off-highway vehicle) line, the Wolverine RMAX-1000. This vicious-sounding side-by-side is the manufacturer’s first in the ROV family to pack a beefy 1,000-cc engine. It’s available now in a two-up version, the Wolverine RMAX 2 1000, and a four-seater dubbed the Wolverine RMAX 4 1000.
Standard Features
The extreme torque of the Wolverine’s parallel twin engine should give you some idea of the wild ride it promises. Designed for off-road use only, the Wolverine’s adjustable suspension relies on FOX 2.0 QS3 shock absorbers. Cast-aluminum 14-inch (356-millimeter) rims wear Dirt Commander 2.0 tires from GBC. Those tires measure 30 inches (762 mm) in diameter on the RMAX 2 and 29 inches (737 mm) on the RMAX 4. The knee and center console areas of both ROVs have a soft-touch surface, while the roll cage of the two-seater base model has a Sun Top roof canopy.
Variants
The Wolverine RMAX-1000 has a couple of upscale trim levels. The XT-R package adds an Adventure Pro GPS system with a key lock, a 4,500-pound (2,040-kilogram) WARN VRX winch, Maxxis Carnivore (two-seat) or Yamaha-exclusive Carnage (four-seat) tires, and a new D-Mode that lets you select the right power output for the terrain with Sport, Trail, and Crawl modes. The XT-R also features the Sun Top, footwell and console lighting, lighted switches, color-matched seats and interior, premium paint and graphics, a USB charger, a premium bumper, and more. The back seat of the RMAX 4 also gets a DC outlet.
The Limited Edition Wolverine builds on the XT-R feature list with FOX’s 2.0 IQS suspension that is adjustable from within the cab. There’s also a stereo system, speakers in the doors, and a key-operated top speed limiter.
