Massey Ferguson MF 5S Compact Tractor Series A 2022 Red Dot Design Award Winner
Massey Ferguson is no stranger to Red Dot Design Awards; its MF 8S tractor series won a Red Dot: Product Design award just last year. Now, the manufacturer’s MF 5S compact tractor lineup has followed suit, winning a 2022 Red Dot Award in the same category. Introduced in 2020, the five-model series was selected by a jury of 50 international design experts for its outstanding design.
“The MF 5S blends the compact dimensions required by livestock and mixed farmers together with superb performance and ease of use for arable operations,” says Jérôme Aubrion, Massey Ferguson director of marketing for Europe and the Middle East. “A true multi-purpose workhorse, the range offers the right choice of power and specifications to suit all applications. These modern tractors also deliver straightforward operation and enhanced features with low ownership costs.”
“Born To Farm”
Thierry Lhotte, company vice president and managing director for Europe and the Middle East, says that in addition to their reputation as a best-in-class dairy and livestock tractor, the 5S tractors’ design and build quality allow them to easily take on a wide array of jobs.
“This award clearly shows its excellent design, with the narrowest steep-nose bonnet delivering outstanding visibility,” Lhotte says. “Along with its straightforward and dependable operation, it offers an industry-leading 4-meter turning radius and many other practical features for unrivalled versatility.”
The MF 5S Inspected
The MF 5S series includes three tractors ranging in rated power from 115 to 145 horsepower (85 to 107 kilowatts) and available in Classic and Deluxe configurations, each equipped with varying levels of performance-enhancing features. For example, the Deluxe configuration includes a multifunction armrest with Multipad lever that has a mini joystick that operates the transmission and controls cruise control, rear linkage, PTO, headland management, and spool valve functions. The Deluxe spec also includes mechanical cab suspension, four electrically operated spool valves, and large telescopic side mirrors, among other features.
All models are powered by a Stage V-compliant AGCO 4.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an All-In-One (DOC+SCR+SC) aftertreatment system. Each also provides visibility down to slightly over 13 feet (4 m) over the step-nose hood. All models are designed to handle heavier loads thanks to an integrated front linkage with a maximum capacity of 6,600 pounds (3,000 kilograms)—a 17% improvement over the previous range. Users have a choice of a 16x16 speed Dyna-4 with Speedmatching or 24x24 Dyna-6 semi-powershift transmission with AutoDrive automatic shifting and fuel-saving Super Eco mode. There’s also an option to install a Visio Roof that provides a clear view of the loader’s entire lifting range.
Get Connected
The MF 5S Series is available with a generous helping of available precision-farming technologies. MF Connect provides nearly real-time, in-field remote diagnostic and management capabilities. An ISOBUS-compatible Datatronic 5 touchscreen terminal that’s standard with Exclusive models and an option for Efficient models provides control of all tractor functions and ISOBUS-compliant implements. It also provides access to MF Guide automatic steering, MF Section Control, and MF Rate Control systems.
