New & Improved Bourgault XR8 Series Harrows Available In Working Widths Up To 110 Feet
Bourgault has released two new and improved XR8 Series Harrows, the XR871 and XR851, featuring an all-new frame and running gear design. Both models are available in working widths up to 110 feet (33.5 meters), which Bourgault says are the market’s largest 7-bar harrows.
Presenting The Bourgault XR8 Harrows
The XR871 Extended Range Harrow features seven rows of 0.5- by 22-inch (1.25- by 56-centimeter) Max Life carbide-infused tines, creating 1.43-in. (3.6-cm) row spacing. The XR851 Extended Range Heavy Harrow has five rows of 0.63- by 26-in. (1.6- by 66-cm) carbide tines for 2.4-in. (6-cm) row spacing. Each harrow is also available in a 90-ft (27.4-m) working width.
The harrows have booms that are 70% stronger, and each employs fully independent sections with 26 in. of vertical travel. The hitch on both harrows is longer, more robust, and can hold up to a 10,000-pound (4,536-kilogram) granular tank. Each harrow rides on larger high-flotation 500/60R22.5 radial tires, which Bourgault says introduce unprecedented flotation to a harrow bar.
Adjustable Downforce
Bourgault Product Development Leader for Current Products Devin Lung says operators can incrementally adjust the harrows’ Adjustable DownForce (ADF) system, which ensures constant downforce regardless of field contours, in the cab and should expect better response times.
Operators can instantly set ADF to float at headlands to prevent over-harrowing. ADF's patented up-force control removes weight from harrow sections in harsh conditions, such as cereal straw, to ensure a uniform field finish. Bourgault says ADF isolates the application of down or up force from adjustments to tine angle or section angle so that adjusting one setting doesn't impact the other two.
