Deere Enhances Its Excavators With Grade Guidance Technology

Moline, Illinois,-based Deere & Company, one of the largest agriculture, construction, and forestry machine manufacturers in the world, has announced a number of upgrades are coming to some of its most popular excavators. The 210G LC, for instance, is now available from the factory with grade guidance technology, which lets the excavator operator achieve a precise finished grade using the in-cab display.

    Making The Grade

Deere’s grade guidance system, developed in cooperation with the positioning and telematics experts at Topcon, tracks the real-time elevation and position of the bucket in relation to a 2D target plane or 3D design surface. With this system installed and calibrated from the factory, the machine operator has the ability to manage the grade for tricky-but-common operations without ever leaving the cab, including digging trenches for pipe, shaping ditches or slopes, and digging structure foundations. The 210G LC is currently available with grade guidance, however the 350G LC and 470G LC excavators will offer the system starting in 2019.

To get even more detailed information about the machine, quickly diagnose potential problems that may arise, and track overall utilization, customers have the option of integrating JDLink, Deere’s full-service telematics solution.

    Existing, But Improved

Deere is also adding numerous new features to eleven models of excavators in the 13- to 47-ton range. These include support for an adjustable rotary pre-cleaner designed to supply the engine with clean air regardless of the environmental conditions, an in-cab USB port, high-visibility orange seatbelts, optional air suspension leather seats, a more intuitive single pedal propel system, a standard pattern control switch behind the cab, and deluxe LED lights for getting more work done in low-light situations. John Deere Powerwise Plus technology is also coming to these machines, which delivers the power you need when you need it, while improving fuel efficiency.

Deere is also promoting its fleet-oriented Ultimate Uptime service, which includes inspections before and after the customer receives delivery of the machine, a five-year JDLink telematics subscription, and other service-related features available on a plan tailored to meet the organization’s needs.
