Volvo CE Announces Q4 2020 North American Availability For New 100-Ton Class R100E Rigid Hauler
The all-new 100-ton class R100E rigid hauler with Tier 4 Final-certified engine that Volvo CE announced in January 2018 as part of the first-ever range of Volvo-branded rigid haulers will be for sale in North America starting in Q4 2020. Volvo CE also recently announced that it will display a Tier 2 version of the massive hauler at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020 in Las Vegas in March in the run-up to making a Tier 4 Final version commercially available.
A Rigid Hauler Is Born
Along with the flagship R100E, Volvo enters the rigid hauler market with its own Volvo-branded models, including the 45-ton R45D, 60-ton R60D, and 72-ton R70D. The R100E and 70D are already available in Europe. Volvo developed the new haulers drawing heavily from the experience its Terex Trucks subsidiary has gained over the years. Volvo has also indicated the launch will eventually lead it to cease production of Terex Trucks rigid haulers.
The 105-ton (95-metric-ton) R100E is equipped with a Cummins QST30 Tier 4 Final engine that generates 1,050 maximum gross horsepower (783 kilowatts) at 2,000 rpm and an SAE J1349-certified gross maximum of 3,416 pounds-foot (4,631 newton meters) of torque at 1,300 rpm. The hauler’s new Volvo Dynamic Shift Control enables fully automatic adaptive transmission shift-points according to the worksite and operational inputs. The 79-cubic-yard (60.4-cubic-meter) capacity of the R100E’s V-shaped body, meanwhile, means owners will spend less per haul, Volvo says.
Technologies In Use
The R100E offers an optional OBW (On-Board Weighing) system that uses exterior-mounted sensors to track and communicate machine data to help enhance production and minimize operational costs. Volvo CareTrack telematics, meanwhile, helps track fuel usage, excessive idling, machine usage, and more. The hauler also features a ROPS/FOPS (rollover protective structure/falling object protective structure)-certified cab that’s fitted to viscous-type isolation mounts, a large glass viewing area, low rake windscreen, and 360-degree vision enabled by Volvo’s Smart View system with multiple ultra-wide-angle exterior cameras.
