Vermeer Teams Up With Vacuum X-Traction Products For VXT500 Vacuum Excavators

Vermeer is adding a high-capacity model to its lineup of truck-mounted vacuum excavators thanks to a new strategic partnership with Vacuum X-Traction Products Inc. of Fort Morgan, Colorado. The new VXT500—the first fruit of the deal—is making its public debut at the 2020 WWETT Show for water, wastewater equipment, treatment, and transport professionals in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Forming A Product Line

Vermeer bought a minority equity investment in VXP and signed a distribution agreement with the company. Vermeer had previously combined the McLaughlin and Vac-Tron brands in 2018 as part of its vacuum excavation and soft dig (suction excavation) strategy.

“Building on our strong Vermeer vac lineup and our recently introduced XR2 vacuum excavator, this VXP partnership will help us offer an even broader range of equipment for our customers to consider depending upon their unique jobsite needs,” says Vermeer Industrial Solutions President Doug Hundt. “From utility, to oil and gas, to industrial plant and environmental clean-up applications, these VXP products are proven to meet the specific demands of customers looking for high-capacity vac solutions that will improve their productivity.”

“The needs for soft dig equipment are ever-changing with customers requiring a wide variety of products on a wide variety of jobsites,” says VXP co-founder Gary Harms. “We are excited to partner with Vermeer and its dealers who are well-equipped to offer and support our range of high-capacity solutions designed to help customers work more efficiently and cost-effectively.”

VXP will develop Vermeer-branded vacuum excavators and supply them to North American dealers starting in mid-2020, with an eye toward expanding into other parts of the world later on.

The Vermeer VXT500

The new VXT500 vacuum excavator is equipped with an 8-inch (203-millimeter)-diameter hose, an 8-cubic-yard (6.1-cubic meter) spoil tank, an 850-gallon (3,218-liter) water tank, and an 18-ft (5.5-m), lightweight steel boom with an extended pivot. It has been designed to provide higher capacity in a smaller footprint for utility applications in tight quarters. The system is mounted on a triple-axle Kenworth T-880 truck with a 435-horsepower (324-kilowatt) PACCAR engine and a 54,000-pound (24,500-kilogram GVWR.

An OMSI soft start transmission adapts the VXT500’s engine power to the 4,800-CFM Jurop vacuum pump and the 13-gpm (49.2-lpm), 3,000-psi (20,700-kiloPascal) Pratisolli water system. The vacuum excavator includes a SCANRECO remote for on-site operation.
