Caterpillar Introduces Higher Power Density C18 Diesel Generator Sets
Caterpillar is now selling three new 60-Hz versions of its C18 stationary diesel genset offering higher power density. The new Tier 2-compliant generator sets provide a range of 650 to 750 kilowatts of standby power and 600 to 680 kW of prime power. The manufacturer says the new C18s have a footprint of up to 55% smaller than competing brand units with the same power outputs.
Easier, More Affordable Installation
“Standby power is a considerable investment for most smaller enterprises, so it’s critical to select an efficient, accurately sized solution that fits in the most compact space possible,” says Cat Retail Electric Power Solutions General Manager Jason Kaiser. “Caterpillar’s new generator sets with high power densities allow customers to get power when they need it most while substantially reducing upfront costs for site preparation, transportation, and installation.”
Technical Details
The new C18 editions’ ignition, governing, air-fuel ratio, and other functions are controlled by the Cat ADEM A4 engine control module. They can accept a full block load in one step per NFPA 110 power requirements for Level 1 systems, Cat says, and they also comply with ISO 8528-5 steady state and transient response requirements. The gensets are available with enclosures for outdoor use or applications requiring lower noise levels.
