Caterpillar D300 GC Diesel Generator Provides Backup Power For Tennessee Jail
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office in Crossville, Tennessee, is using a new Caterpillar D300 GC diesel generator set. The 300-kilowatt stationary standby unit is acting as a backup for the 212-inmate medium-security jail on the premises. Stowers Machinery, which has a branch location in Crossville, provided the D300 GC to the Sheriff’s Office to replace a previous diesel genset on the site. The dealership will also support the Cat generator through a customer value agreement.
“The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office depends on reliable power for the safety of its inmates and staff,” says Jason Kaiser, general manager of Caterpillar Retail Electric Power Solutions. “The Cat GC generator set . . . demonstrates how we can deliver the performance our customers need in a right-sized package that minimizes purchasing and installation costs.”
Under The Hood
The Cat D300 GC is a 60-Hz standby unit for the North American market. The 208-, 480-, or 600-volt genset comes in either an open configuration or with a noise-reducing enclosure that also serves to protect it from the elements. The generator is UL 2200-listed and supplies “excellent” transient response and steady state performance, according to Caterpillar.
The manufacturer’s Electronic ADEM A4 governor controls the genset’s operation. Cat Connect Remote Asset Monitoring is an available option that provides reports and alerts worldwide.
A six-cylinder Cat C9 diesel engine powers the D300 GC generator with an air-to-air aftercooled turbocharger. The 8.8-liter motor meets EPA Tier III emissions standards. Cat includes a two-year warranty with the purchase of a GC generator.
