International brand owner Navistar recently announced an update to its MV Series trucks in the form of an integrated frame extension option that equips the medium-duty trucks to accommodate larger, heavier snowplows. The manufacturer says the MV Series’ 14,700-pound (6,668-kilogram) front axle and matching parabolic taper leaf front suspension were designed with snowplow applications in mind, and the new front frame extension option provides the extra strength necessary to support big plows as well as hose reels and winches.

“The MV Series plow application opens the door for municipalities who do not have the need for larger plows,” says Navistar Director of Product Management Chad Semler. “The refreshed series was built with multiple applications in mind, making it a versatile vehicle capable of getting any job done.”

    The Strength To Plow Ahead

With the new frame extension in place, MV Series trucks can equip plows up to 11 feet (3.3 meters) wide, weighing up to 2,500 lbs (1,134 kg). The front frame extends 20 inches (50.8 centimeters) and doesn’t require mega brackets. International’s Diamond Logic electrical system is a standard feature on MV Series trucks, making it easier for upfitters add plow controls and offering faster diagnostics. Truck equipment manufacturers (TEMs) can also work with International’s Diamond Partner Program for body upfit support materials and services to more quickly integrate snowplows and other equipment.

“By partnering with TEMs, we are offering customers a faster, more streamlined approach to body-building and outfitting the vehicle in a way that benefits them the most,” Semler says.

    Intercoat ChemGuard With Line-X

Anti-corrosion treatments for the MV Series help extend the trucks’ useful life and durability. International applies an inter-reactive, chrome-zine phosphate coating, called “ChemGuard,” on the truck’s floor panels. Navistar says the ChemGuard coating maintains corrosion protection even if the surface is scratched, cut, or perforated. An optional Line-X coating, a polyurethane and polyurea formulation that is routinely applied to pickup truck bedliners, can be applied to the interior floor to further protect against abrasion and corrosion.
